Maxpedition Lunada Gearslinger
By Orion
I've always liked Maxpedition products and own several, so when I was looking for a lightweight grab 'n go pack for short hikes that could still carry enough gear in case I got into trouble, I researched Maxpedition's Gearslinger line.
After much consideration I decided on the Lunada.

The Lunada
Gearslinger at 390 cu. in. is close in volume to the Maxpedition Versipack Jumbo
and larger than the Versipack Fatboy Type S my wife uses.
It features a 12" X 8" X 3" main pocket, 7" X 3" X
1" front upper pocket, 8" X 7" X 1 1/2" front lower pocket,
a 6 1/2" X 5 1/2" slip pocket as well as a 6" X 8" rear
pocket with a hook and loop fastener for attaching the Maxpedition Universal CCW
holster.
All zippers are YKK with paracord zipper pulls. It also includes a beltloop that
fits up to a 2 1/2" wide belt, MOLLE attachment loops and a carrying
handle.
I added a 5.11 Gear cell phone pouch and compass pouch. I find the 5.11 gear
attaches to the MOLLE loops easier than the Maxpedition MALICE clips. That's the
only beef I have against Maxpedition products.
Both the shoulder strap and cross strap are ambidextrous allowing for carrying
across either shoulder. The pack is very comfortable. Surprisingly so since it
only has one shoulder strap.
With the cross strap buckled the pack stays put with no movement at all.
Another handy feature is the cool little pea-less whistle built into the cross
strap buckle that rivals any Fox 40 or ACME pea-less whistle.

One thing about this pack is that it carries so much gear that it's sometimes tempting to overload it which can make it tiring to carry, being a one shoulder pack.
I try to stick to the basics but me being a gear nut, it's sometimes a bit difficult. The following picture is what I normally carry in it. The only items not shown are spare socks, a poncho and space blanket.
